Language and the Left

An excellent article over at American Thinker reminds one of this salient fact, and bluntly suggests that if war is a continuation of politics by other means, then  military strategy should be applied to the context of politics and political ideas.   Thus,  the same way  military strategy dictates that one should not fight on the enemy’s terms, a political strategy should not be engaged on terms that favor one’s opponent.

One of the rarefied battlegrounds is that of language and ideas. There is certainly enough evidence to show that many of our finest academic institutions teach our children and young adults to disdain the ideas of the Constitution and to forget or deride our Constitutional Republic.

In the battle of ideas, progressives, with the aid of their academic and media allies, have defined many of the terms and words that will be used. They are able to “impose their will” by defining the terms of the debate. That forces conservatives into an untenable position from which they usually cannot win, because they have given the verbal “high ground” to the progressives by using their terminology
